How to Hear the Voice of God During Prayer and Fasting
When you fast and pray, you are creating space to hear God more clearly. Fasting helps you silence distractions. Prayer helps you connect with Him. Here’s how to know when God is speaking during your fast:
1. Be Quiet and Expect to Hear
After praying, sit still for a few minutes. Don’t rush. Just be quiet and say, “Lord, I’m listening.”
How you’ll know it’s God:
-
You may feel a deep peace
-
A calm thought may rise in your heart
-
You may hear a soft sentence in your spirit like “I’m with you” or “Trust Me”
2. Read Your Bible Slowly
God speaks through His Word. During your fast, read with focus. Don’t rush. Ask God to speak to you through what you’re reading.
How you’ll know it’s God:
-
A verse will feel like it’s “talking to you”
-
You may suddenly understand something you never saw before
-
You might feel joy, peace, or tears when reading a verse
3. Watch for God’s Voice Inside You
His voice is not always loud. It can be a strong thought, a picture in your heart, or a small knowing.
How you’ll know it’s God:
-
The thought won’t leave your heart
-
It will not bring fear or confusion
-
It will always agree with the Bible
4. Write It Down
If you feel God said something, write it in your journal. That helps you remember and pray over it later.
Simple Tip:
Ask yourself, “Does this sound like something Jesus would say?” If yes, it’s likely Him.
Don’t worry if it’s not loud or dramatic. Most times, God speaks softly. During fasting and prayer, just be available, be still, and believe that He will speak.
You don’t have to force it. Just stay close.
God speaks—and you will hear.
